Observed: Last night, noticed tiny brown spot on 2 of the larger leaves. 😐

Not watered since Day Zero. Daily indirect lighting with at the dimmest setting just to give it some consistent lighting since natural reflected light from the outside varies. Will increase grow light intensity if the color of the leaves change for the worse.

Best article with I've found re: planthardware.com/propagate-po It doesn't define the part of the petiole that browns/peels. I'll just call it "sleeve".

Today the end leaf's sleeve had curled away. πŸ€”

Still not watered since Day Zero.
Other than the tiny spots on 3 of the larger leaves, it's looking healthy & happy.
Variegation & color still looking muy bueno.

Don't know what to do with it. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I think it's about time I water it. I'm also thinking tomorrow I should start leaving the on for 8 hours. It's very low, indirect light anyway.

I realized when I watered my that the pot's bottom is totally flat, without the usual 1 or 2 cm lift to let the bottom breathe.

Photo shows my temporary solution while I find a better setup -- elevated the pot with a smaller pot so the holes along the edge are not covered.

The Plan: When it's grown some more and when I'm more confident, I'll trim off a group of 3 leaves and grow that in water.

Potted plant stays put. ☝️ I think my mistake with my now-dead was that I bought a potted one & moved it to live in water. 😁 Silly me.

Uh-oh. 😢 1 leaf under the taller, larger leaves is starting to look yellow. Perhaps watering 1x a week is too much. That's probably also why the leaf sheaths on the older leaves are turning brown.

No root rot, please. πŸ™

Moving forward: Will water only once every 2 weeks. ☝️

I went for Option B -- cut off the yellow wilted πŸƒ and wait & see.

The node is beneath the soil. I cut it as low as I could and covered the cut part with the watchamacallit covering the top of the soil. No infection, I hope.

And yes, I got a new plant yesterday! 😊

@manuelcaeiro
Hey, the lioness was going to have him for lunch. That's the life of a hog. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Pothos 🌱 I see white crystals. Now I'm confused.

@evelynyap Probably just silica gel, is added to lots of compost mixes to retain moisture. Goes in as a fine powder but swells up into squishy little crystal shapes like those.
Usually if I'm adding it, I add only to lower half of the pot so it doesn't show.

Pothos 🌱 I see white crystals. Now I'm confused.

@seachaint
Silica gel? 😳 Wow. Didn't know about that being used for plants. Thanks! 😊

So if the soil retains more moisture, I'm guessing I should probably water even less. πŸ€”

Would that also cause the dry white stuff on the leaves? I wiped them off. Haven't noticed a reoccurrence.

@plants

re: Pothos 🌱 I see white crystals. Now I'm confused.

@evelynyap @plants I can't speak to the dry white stuff I'm afraid, that would depend strongly on the plant and I'm unfamiliar with these ones. For some plants it's normal to produce resins on the leaf surface, maybe always or maybe only under some conditions. For other plants it could be a sign of mildew, or it could be moldy honeydew from hidden parasites like mites, scale bugs, or aphids. I couldn't say..
At least for the silica gel, it absorbs however much it'll absorb, and then it doesn't absorb any more. It's great for plants that can't tolerate having no access to water, though it can probably be bad for some succulents? Again, for your species I couldn't say. TBH I kill enough of my own plants through mismanagement πŸ˜…

re: Pothos 🌱 I see white crystals. Now I'm confused.

@seachaint
Oh okay. Thanks 😊

When I saw the white stuff on the leaves and the little white crystals, first thing I thought of was salt.

I've had a and my first die on me too. People say they're easy to care for. Well, they don't know my . πŸ˜…

Hopefully this one won't die too. πŸ€ͺ
